Sekou Smith Adds Depth To Josh Childress Reporting

Two essential nuggets from his latest blog entry:
...two of my spies have made it clear that were Childress to receive any sort of “reasonable” NBA offer (the $5.8 million mid-level exception or below), the Hawks would match it before Childress finished signing his name on the offer sheet (the aim, however, is to work out a sign-and-trade deal to appease both sides since Childress has made clear his desire to play elsewhere, per a source).
and
Childress was in Atlanta last Sunday to meet with the Hawks’ brass and made clear that he would do his due diligence in evaluating his NBA options before deciding whether to return to Greece or not. It’s smart business yet again on the part of Childress, who had drawn interest from a number of other teams (Lakers, Clippers, Cavaliers and Spurs are included in that list, according to my league spies) curious to explore the potential of him making an return to the league now as opposed to at the end of his contract with Olympiakos.

Interesting. Josh may have sacrificed a year in exchange for getting the hell out much sooner than he would have without holding or going the conventional route.

It seems like Atlanta really burned a bridge with Childress. I was thinking the Hawks might have some small interest in Ridnour, given his contract is expiring after this season and they have a lot of shoot first point guard types. Would they have any interest do you think?

There would be worse moves we could make, but I think Sund is just postering. There's no way Childress is gonna end up on the Hawks next year, and matching an offer for him gives a pretty good chance that that happens

But if they match can't they force a trade? By letting the word out aren't they trying to explore the possibility that someone will offer them a deal?

Beats the alternative, it seems to me.

The Hawks have no leverage though, since everyone knows they don't really want Childress. So say the Bucks offer Childress 5 years at 35 million. We match and try to hijack Ridnour. They can just say no and we're stuck with a player that we don't want that doesn't want to be here.

They kinda of have to try, I'm just doubtfull that it will word out, and if it does, we're gonna get something like a 2nd round pick.

Better than nothing but not a huge deal or anything

But they can't sign him unless the Hawks don't match, so if the Hawks match, then Childress won't sign and he's back to Greece, right?

I mean, since he is screwing the Hawks so hard shouldn't they try to get a little something for him even if it means he has to go back to Greece? It would seem that the leverage the Hawks do have is Childress wanting to be back in the NBA enough to convince the other team to give up a little something for him.

Not that Childress has a lot of pull, but he can push a little, I'd think, especially if he really doesn't want to play in Greece again.

I think we basically just said the same thing in a different way lol, What do you think we could get out of a sign and trade for Childress, though?
