Not much of a surprise, nor much to add. Anyone paying attention knows that Josh Smith quite obviously excels at some things, quite obviously struggles with others, and his strengths and weaknesses don't always inform his actions.
The league averages 63% at the rim and 41.3% from everywhere else.

And so what's left is a good but not great player--one with a year and a half left on his contract.
In your honest opinion, Bret, what do you think the best course of action is for the Hawks with Smith? Trade him now and regroup next season with Johnson, Horford, Teague, Marvin, Zaza, and the pieces you get back from the trade? Or hold onto him with the hope of making a run in 2012-13?
Just curious.
A different coach (Thibodeau? Collins? Sloan?) would hold him accountable for his insistence on accentuating the worst parts of his game. Woodson and Drew are unable to summon that steely nerve, obviously. We all suffer as result. What a waste.
Its solely coaching that leaves him away from the rim. Its management that plays a 6'8 slasher in the frontcourt where he's moved away from the rim. And never gets to finish the transition game unless he rebounds and goes himself or a big man trips up.
Whens the last time we even ran a 1/4 pick and roll? Anyone?
Also hes undersized and gets forced away from these shots
